Better coffee is mostly maths.

Choose a method, tell us how much coffee or water you have, and slide the ratio to taste. The calculator does the rest and walks you through the pour.

The things we get asked most on Thursday mornings.

Pick a coffee to brew
What is a brew ratio?
It is the weight of coffee to the weight of water. 1:16 means 16 grams of water for every gram of coffee. Lower ratios (1:12) brew stronger; higher ratios (1:18) brew lighter and let delicate flavours through.
Does water matter?
More than most people think. Filtered water with moderate mineral content brews sweeter. If your tap water is very hard, a simple carbon filter jug helps a lot.
How fresh should my beans be?
Our coffees taste best from day 5 to day 30 after the roast date stamped on the bag. Espresso likes a little more rest, 10 to 14 days.
